By inferno13 on Monday, April 07, 2008 (EST)

Nice lefty festival!!! Is waverly trying not to have a tournament next year?  If kretch wasnt soooooo much better than everyone else, it would have been 4 years in a row a lefty has won!! Does knowone else see this or is it that knowone cares?

U have to b lefthanded???
By inferno13 on Monday, April 07, 2008 (EST)

Let me guess??? You are left handed and dont care about a tournament getting entries and dont really care if the tournament is even around in years to come as long as you do well?  I dont see how bowlers can keep supporting a tournament that has the same result year in and year out!  Am I an idiot because lefties havent won 3 out of the past 4 years and almost 4 of 4 or am I an idiot because kretch is not sooooooo much better than everyone else? (in case you were still wondering... he is) What part of my original post is untrue? Would love to know?

Comments are great, debates are great, etc... but let's limit the name calling.  Everyone has their own opinion and everyone is not going to agree with everyone.  I don't want to play forum cop, so I'm just asking everyone in advance to post your argument without name calling.

If anyone ever goes to the PBA Forums, that's basically all it is.  This guy sucks, that guy sucks, you suck, etc.. and of course everyone hides behind fake names.

Thanks,

Kelly

my thoughts
By wert2324 on Monday, April 07, 2008 (EST)
Well i just got done bowling in the sweeper and it wasnt all that difficult compared to the left side. That was the first scratch tournament i have done in 2 years and i dont even bowl in sport leagues or pba experience leagues and still finished 6th. If you didnt throw the ball well you were sure as hell were not gonna score. People just think lefties have it easy so they give up when they see someone throwing good. Ive seen it a hundred times. But i guess if you dont bowl or didnt bowl on it then it makes it right to assume the lefties are unstoppable. And when u have 80 percent more righties then lefties bowling that tends to make the right hand side break down just a bit more wouldnt ya think so maybe that is why alot of left handers score well. They all bowled good and deserve the credit.

Left vs. Right
By Snow Dog on Thursday, April 10, 2008 (EST)

Whenever the left side is shut out and there isn't a lefty to be found above the cut line you don't see a bunch of posts about how a tournament is a righty festival.  Why is it when a lefty does well it's all because of the shot and not because they bowled well and deserved to win?  Seeing guys like Kenny and Jerry near the top of the leader board shouldn't come as much of a shock.  They are great players, pure and simple.

Each side of the lane has it's advantages.  If there is a good reaction from the start, the left side doesn't break down as fast.  If there isn't a shot to be found, the lefties are screwed.  On the other hand, the righties can open up a lane if they work together and that usually can't be done on the left side.

And the bottom line is... who cares?  The shot is what the shot is.  You have to go out and adjust and make the best shots you can.  Complaining about the shot is a waste of energy.  You can't change it.  Adapt and overcome.

Congrats to Jerry and Ryan!  Great bowling, guys!

I thought it was fair

I bowled in the sweeper, came in 12th, and also made it to the 3rd round of elimination for Scratch Action. Sure, the shot was tough, adjust, keep your head screwed on and don't let it get to you. I saw leftys and rightys struggle equally as much. --Paul--

Missing The Point
By inferno13 on Saturday, April 12, 2008 (EST)

You guys are clearly missing the point of  my original post.  Never did I say that a lefty didn't deserve this or that.  I was simply wondering how people can support a tournament in which the left side has a clear advantage every year.  Numbers dont lie.  You can tell me how good this guy or that guy is until your blue in the face, that doesnt change the fact that 3 of the last 4 years the tournament has been won by a lefthanded player.  They take up an eighth of the field for crying out loud! NICE PERCENTAGE!!  You guys can get on here and talk all night long about how a shot is what it is or how you need to adjust. Blah Blah Blah!  Where are all the rightys when the checks get cashed in waverly... holding the door  at the bank for there left handed friend  while he laughs getting in his car. FACTS ARE FACTS!!

I didnt get on here for the lefty vs righty debate!  I simply asked a question and made a few statements on things I have observed in the past few years. I hate to see everyone getting mad at me for writing how it is, but im just writing what other people are to scared to.

For the record
By Diplomat440 on Saturday, April 12, 2008 (EST)
Just for the record, I am right handed.  I didn't get beat by a left hander, and I am fully aware that the condition is just a tad different on the left side.  Its not like the left side was a house shot and the right side was scorpion.  I wasn't trying to twist your words around.  I am aware of the numbers and the stats.  Don't say blah blah blah to having to make adjustments, because its necessary whether you're right or left handed.

Past Champions
By Scrivy44 on Sunday, April 13, 2008 (EST)
Just for the record the previous champions have not all been left handed it has been a righty and a lefty every other year for the last six years. I have went deep into the tournament the past two years finishing fith and third. This year the shot was tough and I did not throw the ball as well as I should have. Its simple make quality shots and play your game. You can't change what happened there was a shot. Ryan K proved it just be good enough to play it. Who held the door at the bank for Ryan, was it a lefty??? And by the way I am a righty!! So quit your crying!! The tournament is well run so quit bashing the tournament. Greg does a great job every year catering to the scratch bowlers. It is one of the best tournaments around.

Good Tourney
By inferno13 on Sunday, April 13, 2008 (EST)
It is a good run tournament but the left side plays much easier than the right.  I appreciate anyone who puts on a scratch tourney  because there arent enough of them around but i wont put my money up with a clear disadvantage.  But hey, im only one entry so who cares.  Enjoy it.

righty's being dumb
By crmillard on Monday, April 14, 2008 (EST)
the left hand side looks easier because that there are less of them and they all do the same thing. which breaks everything down the same way. the right hand side doesn't because all the right handers play all over the place there. would be alot more right handers making the cut if they would all try to do the same thing. so lets not say that it was a lefty wall and say that the righty needs to be smarter and start working together instead of trying to fight it. congrats Ryan and Jerry also to Greg for running and great tournament
